The Association of Pacific Island Legislatures urged oil giant Mobil to expedite the installation of a jet fuel tank at the Tinian International Airport, expressing support for increased air traffic on the island.<\/p>\n
The APIL made the request through a formal resolution it adopted during a recent meeting on Guam. APIL, an association of lawmakers from 12 Pacific governments, is led by CNMI House Vice Speaker Timothy Villagomez as its president.<\/p>\n
This comes after the Federal Aviation Administration certified that the Tinian runway is among the U.S. Transportation Department list of airports allowed to receive large aircraft.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe installation of a jet fuel tank will enable larger aircraft to land on the island of Tinian,\u201d the APIL resolution states. \u201cThe attraction of larger airlines will complement Tinian\u2019s goals to bolster its tourism industry and improve the local economy.\u201d<\/p>\n
Currently, only China Southern Air\u2019s large aircraft use the Tinian airport for chartered flights between the island and China. Tinian Dynasty and Casino are chartering the flights.<\/p>\n
