The Cooperative Education and Training Program, sometimes referred to as “Co-op,” will be hosting a career fair at the Saipan World Resort\u2019s Hibiscus Hall on Aug. 13.<\/p>\n
According to co-op coordinator Tyce Minister, the program is looking for 10 businesses to join the fair, in addition to the government and private agencies presently involved in the program. <\/p>\n
\u201cWe are looking for about 10 more business. I\u2019m always looking for new [companies],\u201d said Mister.<\/p>\n
Some of the companies that have already confirmed their participation in the job fair program are Joeten Ace Hardware, Commonwealth Development Authority, Verizon Micronesia, Herman\u2019s Modern Bakery, Public Defender\u2019s Office, Division of Fish and Wildlife, Department of Public Health, Pacific Islands Club, Coastal Resource Management, Louie Vuitton, the Law Office of White Pierce Mailman and Nutting, the Public Auditors Office, and Saipan World Resort.<\/p>\n
\u201cSome students that went through the program [last year] and are currently working there,\u201d said Mister. <\/p>\n
The three public high schools on island will participate in the activity: Marianas High School will have 30 students in the program; Kagman and Saipan Southern High School will each have 20 students. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe total numbers of seniors going through the program increased this year,\u201d Mister added. <\/p>\n
He said the three main purpose for the career fair is to give the students a chance to explore different careers, to get them to sit down with an individual in the working environment, and to set up an interview with the business.<\/p>\n
The program will involve students on both semesters from August to December and January to May. \u201cOn January there will be another group of students. Some [students from August training] will continue with the training in January but not many, about 4-5 students,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n
The students will perform two hours of work per day, totaling 10 hours a week. They will participate in completing resum\u00e9s, applications, interviews, personal development, and other projects. <\/p>\n
