USS Vincennes crew Jason E. Crile, Michael Navarrd, and Lawrence Hamilton paid a visit to Saipan Southern High School yesterday morning to share information about the U.S. Navy to Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps students.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe participated in informing the students from [Saipan Southern High] about the Navy. I have [three] sailors talk about the U.S. Navy and what kind of opportunity we provide. They shared technical skills we have to offer young men and women,\u201d said Mark J. Englebert, USS Vincennes commanding officer.<\/p>\n
Joaquin Kiyoshi, senior army instructor at SSHS, requested for the Navy crew to visit the school. \u201c[Ruth Coleman] asked if there were any projects to be done. I asked her if they can just have [the Navy personnel] come in to talk to the students,\u201d said Kiyoshi.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople from the Army Reserve usually come to the school to recruit students. This is the first time for the Navy to recruit in the school,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
According to Kiyoshi, if the students decide to join the service they will have a better picture of what the Navy can provide them.<\/p>\n
Some 115 students from the different JROTC companies spent their class hour discussing the opportunities and benefits they will have if they join the service. <\/p>\n
Naomi Pangelinan, ROTC student at SSHS, said she found the presentation very informative. \u201cI plan on joining the Navy after high school, and their visit was very interesting. It was great that they came to our school to provide us information about their experience,\u201d she said. <\/p>\n
\u201cMy friends and I were told that we are the only school that they visited, and I am grateful for that,\u201d she added.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe kids were excited and interested because they had someone from the Navy come to talk to them.
