Former governor Froilan \u201cLang\u201d Tenorio aims to make a comeback in politics, seeking another gubernatorial post in next year\u2019s elections, this time under his old party, the Democratic Party.<\/p>\n
\u201cI\u2019m running and I\u2019m seeking Democratic Party\u2019s endorsement,\u201d said Tenorio in an interview.<\/p>\n
He said he would meet with party members on Saturday, Sept. 4.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a general membership meeting. They [members] know that I\u2019m interested in running,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
He said it was also his understanding that he would be elected as chairman of the party\u2019s central executive committee.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat\u2019s my understanding but there\u2019s no commitment on their part,\u201d the former governor said.<\/p>\n
Tenorio, who served as governor from 1994 to 1998, had formed his own Reform Party and ran for the 2001 gubernatorial race. He lost to the Babauta team.<\/p>\n
Lately, Tenorio was reported to have coalesced with the Covenant Party and allegedly agreed to be the running mate (as lieutenant governor) of the party\u2019s expected standard-bearer, House Speaker Benigno Fitial. Tenorio indicated that his discussions with Covenant Party did not work out.<\/p>\n
In the last election campaign, Tenorio had promised to carry out reforms \u201cto revitalize the spirit of the people and to develop the CNMI economically,\u201d better than his previous term in office. <\/p>\n
He had said that his administration would be pro-business and would welcome foreign investments to bring in additional capital into the economy.<\/p>\n
He planned to eliminate \u201cunnecessary business regulations,\u201d including the three-year stay limit of foreign workers, repeal anti-investment promotions, revitalize tourism promotion and to promote garment exports in new and existing markets.<\/p>\n
Tenorio said his administration would solve the current economic slump and thwart Washington\u2019s plan to take control of local immigration and minimum wage.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
