{"id":84299,"date":"2004-09-24T07:35:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-24T07:35:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a096128a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-09-24T07:35:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-24T07:35:00","slug":"a096129b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a096129b-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Bombing exercises on FDM set next week"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A new batch of bombing exercises resumes next week at the Farallon De Mendenilla Island, as part of increased military activities in the Marianas region.<\/p>\n<p>The Emergency Management Office said the exercises would be conducted from Sept. 28 to Oct. 1, from 10am to 8pm daily.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe general location of this activity will be on the island of Farallon De Mendenilla Training Area (R7201) from 15,000 feet mean sea level (MSL) on a 10 nautical mile radius on all quadrants,\u201d the EMO said in a public advisory.<\/p>\n<p>The EMO warned the public\u2014especially fishermen, commercial pilots, and tour operators\u2014to stay away from the training area during the scheduled bombing exercises.<\/p>\n<p>The batches of bombing exercises have become frequent, following the Pentagon\u2019s plan to transform the Marianas as the United States\u2019 military hub on the edge of Asia. <\/p>\n<p>Recently, the military also conducted helicopter training on Tinian.  The U.S. military has also joined military units from allied countries in several bilateral and multilateral joint exercises, including a missile exercise with the Royal Thai Navy.  <\/p>\n<p>Earlier this month, French surveillance frigate Vendemiaire visited Guam. The Vendemiaire is a 3,000-ton surveillance frigate equipped with a Panther helicopter.
