{"id":84304,"date":"2004-09-25T02:20:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-25T02:20:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a097db67-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-09-25T02:20:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-25T02:20:00","slug":"a097db7a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a097db7a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"House pays tribute to Micronesian trader"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The CNMI House of Representatives paid tribute to Micronesian businessman Edward John McDonald Calvo, who passed away in California last Sept. 14.<\/p>\n<p>The House adopted House Resolution 14-80 to honor Calvo for his contributions to the Commonwealth and to express sympathy to the trader\u2019s family and relatives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMr. Calvo had strong ties with the CNMI,\u201d the resolution states.  \u201c[He] and his business partners have been major supporters of the CNMI by making generous contributions during times of disasters and hardship, fiestas, sports and other community events.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The resolution recognized Calvo\u2019s contribution through his business interests in the CNMI, which include the Bank of Saipan, Calvo\u2019s Insurance, and Pacific Trading Co.<\/p>\n<p>The resolution also depicted Calvo as a statesman, noting that the trader served as senator with the 14th Guam Legislature.<\/p>\n<p>Calvo died in Palo Alto, California at age 68.
