{"id":84401,"date":"2004-09-29T02:56:00","date_gmt":"2004-09-29T02:56:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a0a665b9-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-09-29T02:56:00","modified_gmt":"2004-09-29T02:56:00","slug":"a0a665ca-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a0a665ca-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Companies support Guam medical symposium"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>PacifiCare Asia Pacific, Bristol-Myers Squibb (Guam), MedPharm, and the Pacific Daily News recently donated substantial educational grants to support the 1st Micronesian Medical Symposium scheduled for October 8-10 at the Guam Marriott Resort. <\/p>\n<p>The symposium is hosted by the Guam Memorial Hospital with the Guam Medical Society as corporate sponsor. <\/p>\n<p>PacifiCare Asia Pacific is the symposium\u2019s Gold Grantor through a contribution of $7,000 to underwrite the medical education program. <\/p>\n<p>The Silver Grantors, with $5,000 contributions each, are Bristol-Myers Squibb (Guam), and MedPharm. The Pacific Daily News is also a Silver Grantor through in-kind contributions. <\/p>\n<p>The three-day symposium is intended for physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to: <\/p>\n<p>\u2022 provide medical education and training;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 foster shared healthcare dialogue; and<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 promote professional and regional healthcare alliances. <\/p>\n<p>Attendees to the conference will receive education and training on a wide variety of medical and healthcare topics including medical responses to: bio-terrorism; conflict resolution in healthcare; prevention and treatment of depression, suicide, diabetes, pediatric toxicology, and vascular disease; and up-to-date information on pain management and hormone replacement therapy for women. <\/p>\n<p>Special presentations will provide insights on the history and progress of regional nursing in Micronesia, medicine and surgery in a war zone, and new approaches to tobacco control. <\/p>\n<p>The three day symposium also offers up to 20 Continuing Medical Education credits for physicians and nurses.<\/p>\n<p>A single registration fee covers all meals (Friday dinner, breakfast and lunches on Saturday and Sunday), refreshments, all conference reference materials, and all CME credits. <\/p>\n<p>All members of the Guam Medical Society, Guam Nurses Association, and military personnel registering before Oct. 7 can do so for a reduced registration fee of $75. Registration on-site for members is $100. General admission prior to Oct. 7 is $150, or $200 onsite. <\/p>\n<p>While the conference materials are targeted for the medical community and may be technical in nature, interested members of the public are invited to register.
