{"id":84499,"date":"2004-10-02T04:24:00","date_gmt":"2004-10-02T04:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a0a76db1-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-10-02T04:24:00","modified_gmt":"2004-10-02T04:24:00","slug":"a0a76dc4-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a0a76dc4-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Bowlers bow out of Shah Alam tourney"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>CNMI bowlers formally bowed out of competition in the 18th Asian Intercity Bowling Championships Friday night at the Megalanes in Shah Alam, Malaysia.<\/p>\n<p>Team Saipan and Team Capitol Hill concluded their assignments in the 17-city tenpin tournament after finishing 12th and 13th, respectively, in the team event.<\/p>\n<p>Saipan, composed of Mark \u201cThe Shark\u201d Halstead, John Santos, and the Sablan brothers, Joseph and Frank, rolled a total of 4,225 pinfalls.<\/p>\n<p>Capitol Hill, for its part, was a mere 73 pins behind at 4,152. The team is made up of Robert Talavera, Simon Manacop, Danilo Robles, and Mike Guirey.<\/p>\n<p>Halstead and Manacop led all CNMI players in the team event with identical averages of 193.5 in the six-game series. Joseph Sablan and Talavera came in next with averages of 183.67 and 170.5, respectively, followed by Guirey (167), Santos (164.83), Frank Sablan (162.17), and Robles (161).<\/p>\n<p>Uiwang won the gold medal in the men\u2019s team event after bowling a score of 5,062. Paranaque City knocked down 4,902 pins and bagged the silver, while Jakarta captured the bronze with 4,578 total pinfalls.<\/p>\n<p>In the women\u2019s division, Shah Alam took home first place with a pinfall total of 4,471. Jakarta was just 45 pins down and settled for the silver with 4,426 pinfalls. Pasay City salvaged the bronze with a score of 4,398.<\/p>\n<p>The 10-man CNMI delegation to the Shah Alam tournament is also composed of delegation head Jerry Tan and team manager Ross Zapanta. Continental Airlines, Micronesian Brokers, Inc., and Saipan Bowling Association are sponsoring the bowlers.<\/p>\n<p>On Thursday, Paranaque City\u2019s Purvis Granger and Chester King came out of nowhere to nip favorites Daniel Lim and Zulmazran Zulkifli by a mere 7 pins to capture the gold medal in the men\u2019s doubles event. Granger and King totaled 2,489 pinfalls to Lim and Zulkifli\u2019s 2,482. Ryan Lalisang and Yuyu Lie Joe Tjam got the bronze (2,416).<\/p>\n<p>Paranaque City finished first and second in the women\u2019s doubles with the pair of Lucy Cheng and Cecilia Yap winning the gold (2,308) and teammates Liza Clutario and Liza Del Rosario securing the silver (2,265).
