{"id":84539,"date":"2004-10-04T04:43:00","date_gmt":"2004-10-04T04:43:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a0a88a7d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-10-04T04:43:00","modified_gmt":"2004-10-04T04:43:00","slug":"a0a88a96-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a0a88a96-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"House junks lowering board members\u2019 qualifications"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives has rejected a bill that aims to waive the educational requirement in the appointment of department heads, board members, or commission members.<\/p>\n<p>The House voted 10-2 against House Bill 14-226, which aimed to amend the law setting the educational qualifications of persons appointed as department heads, board members, or commission members.<\/p>\n<p>The bill, authored by Rep. Janet Maratita, said the existing educational requirements for these positions \u201cmay be unduly restrictive.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maratita said that many people \u201chave gained valuable management and life experiences on the job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>As such, she said her bill would give appointing authorities \u201cthe discretion to appoint people as department heads, board members or commission members who are otherwise qualified but for their lack of formal educational experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill provides that the appointing authority may waive the educational requirement if, in the judgment of the appointing authority, the appointee has a minimum of five years professional supervisory, managerial, or voluntary experience.<\/p>\n<p>Maratita said voluntary experience includes \u201cserving as a board member officer, or chairperson in prestigious organizations that includes\u2026organizations providing services to the health and welfare of the general public.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill, according to House authorities, was voted on when Maratita \u201cforced\u201d it to be placed in the agenda during a recent session. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The House of Representatives has rejected a bill that aims to waive the educational requirement in the appointment of department heads, board members, or commission members.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-84539","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84539","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=84539"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/84539\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=84539"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=84539"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=84539"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
