Karidat\u2019s Guma\u2019 Esperansa (House of Hope) disclosed yesterday that they will be launching a project dubbed \u201cThe Real Men Project\u201d that aims to assist victims of domestic violence and promote awareness of the criminal act.<\/p>\n
According to Guma\u2019 Esperansa manager Lauri B. Ogumoro, the project features a calendar for 2005 that intends to raise funds to support victims and their children during their stay at the Guma\u2019 Esperansa, a domestic violence shelter, as well as raise awareness on the issues and effects of domestic violence within the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Real Men Project proposes to feature 12 diverse groups of men, one per calendar month, who will join our efforts to create an island community free of domestic violence by advocating an anti-domestic violence message for each month,\u201d Ogumoro said.<\/p>\n
She said each month will contain information on domestic violence that would \u201cbetter inform and educate our people\u201d while also featuring the victim hotline telephone number for easy access. <\/p>\n
\u201cOur fundraising efforts lie in the sale of 5,000 copies of the calendar that will be produced,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Ogumoro said her group has been soliciting for production cost assistance from various organizations and businesses. She said the Napu Outrigger Canoe Club has already confirmed assisting as a sponsor.<\/p>\n
Ogumoro said the release date for the calendar has been set for Oct. 29 during the Candle Light Vigil as part of the Domestic Violence Awareness Month. <\/p>\n
