{"id":85292,"date":"2004-11-01T05:22:00","date_gmt":"2004-11-01T05:22:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a107f72e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-11-01T05:22:00","modified_gmt":"2004-11-01T05:22:00","slug":"a107f73f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a107f73f-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"30 percent qualify for SHEFA scholarships"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Saipan Mayor Juan Borja Tudela and the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance board have forwarded this week to the Secretary of Finance SHEFA\u2019s first recipients of academic performance scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>A SHEFA scholar must maintain or exceed a 3.5 GPA on a 4.0 grade point average.<\/p>\n<p>The academic performance scholarship is SHEFA\u2019s second batch of financial assistance to qualified Saipan residents attending U.S. accredited colleges or universities at home or abroad.<\/p>\n<p>The amount of academic performance scholarship is $2,000 for Fall and $2,000 for Spring 2005.<\/p>\n<p>Of the approximately 200 Saipan applicants for Fall 2004 only 30 percent qualify for this highly coveted scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>To qualify for SHEFA\u2019s financial assistance, a college student must be a bona fide resident of Saipan, including the Northern Islands; must be enrolled in a U.S. accredited college or university on full-time status; not taking any remedial classes; and a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident.<\/p>\n<p>For more information about SHEFA and the assistance program log on to www.saipanshefa.com or call the SHEFA Office at 664-2585 and ask for Sue or the Office of the Mayor of Saipan at 234-6208\/6280 and ask for Florence Camacho-Stephen.
