The U.S. Department of Justice, in conjunction with the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, recently hosted a three-day conference on environmental enforcement at the Pacific Island\u2019s Club on Saipan.<\/p>\n
U.S. Attorney Leonardo M. Rapadas said in a statement issued yesterday that representatives of the U.S. Department of Justice\u2019s Environment and Natural Resources Division, based in Washington, D.C., along with representatives from the U.S. Coast Guard, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and NOAA\u2019s Office of Law Enforcement, traveled to the CNMI to make presentations on federal environmental laws and environmental enforcement. <\/p>\n
In the audience were members of seven CNMI agencies that have environmental enforcement responsibilities. <\/p>\n
Welcoming remarks were given by Rapadas and U.S. Resident Rep. Pedro A. Tenorio, who both stressed the importance of environmental enforcement in protecting the CNMI\u2019s natural beauty.<\/p>\n
Topics covered at the conference included federal water pollution and wildlife protection laws, decision-making in the federal enforcement process, and further opportunities for training and resource-sharing with the CNMI.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
