The 8th Saipan and Northern Islands Municipal Council recently adopted a resolution commending U.S. Army First Sgt. Richard S. Basa \u201cfor his bravery, courage and determination to uphold the United States Armed Force\u2019s goal to secure peace, freedom and democracy in Iraq.\u201d<\/p>\n
Basa enlisted with the U.S. Army in June 1981, was deployed to Iraq in January through May 1991 and March through November 2004 for a one-year tour of duty. <\/p>\n
Basa is a recipient of two Bronze Stars, one Meritorious Medal Service, five Army Commendation Medal and other numerous awards.<\/p>\n
He is the son of proud parents Elias Taisipic and Rita Basa Atrero (dec.) and husband to Wendy Basa. They are blessed with three children: Muana, Ricky and Crystal.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe members of the council and the people of the CNMI join the family members in their prayers to our Almighty Lord to bestow unto\u2026Basa and other members of the U.S. Armed Forces serving in Iraq, Afghanistan and other dangerous posts eternal safety, security and success in securing global peace, freedom and democracy for all races and ages. <\/p>\n
\u201cFurther the members of the municipal council join the people of the CNMI in extending special recognition, congratulation and commendation to\u2026Basa for safeguarding and protecting the lives of his fellow Americans,\u201d part of the resolution reads.<\/p>\n
The resolution was certified by municipal council chair Gregorio V. Deleon Guerrero and vice chair David A. Indalecio and attested by secretary Antonia M. Tudela.<\/p>\n
The United States declared war against Iraq\u2019s Saddam Hussein to deter acts of terrorism and for the people of Iraq to enjoy freedom, peace and democracy.
