The Library Friends have been awarded a grant from the Administration of Native Americans to create a new Children\u2019s Library and Cultural Center at the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, according to the group\u2019s president, Maureen Sebangiol.<\/p>\n
The grant award, she said, is the result of a cooperative effort between the Library Friends and the Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, with Dan Nielsen of Research, Evaluation, and Grant Services Inc. writing the successful grant narrative. She did not specify the grant\u2019s amount.<\/p>\n
Sebangiol said the award will be spent over a three-year period to renovate the library conference room, purchase furniture and library materials, and develop new library services. <\/p>\n
\u201cThe goal of this project will be to incorporate local cultural elements into current library technology and trends. The new library will not only support our children\u2019s educational needs but it will be a center for the preservation and teaching of traditional culture and knowledge,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The new Children\u2019s Library will involve the participation of several literacy and cultural agencies to create exciting new programs for children and families. The Library Friends are currently accepting applications for a Project Manager to oversee the grant.
