Guerrero, as vice president of the organization for 2005.

Guerrero will replace vice president Richard Pierce, who earlier tendered his resignation, citing “political” reasons that he did not elaborate on. The Chamber leadership did not disclose these reasons.

“At its last meeting, the Saipan Chamber of Commerce board of directors accepted the resignation of vice president Richard Pierce due to personal reasons. Mr. Pierce requested to complete his term on the 2004 board of directors,” said Chamber executive director Christine Parke.

Parke said that, since Pierce was reelected by the Chamber membership to a second term as vice president, the board moved to fill the position with Guerrero for 2005.

Pierce, the executive director of the Saipan Garment Manufacturers Association, said in his resignation letter to Chamber president Alex Sablan that “recent developments” prompted his decision to vacate the vice presidential post.

“I can’t help but feel that some ‘new blood’ would be beneficial to the Chamber’s administration. Saying this, and as has been the case in the past, I hope the Chamber would refill the board, and vote from that group to elect a new vice president to be installed at the installation dinner in January of 2005,” Pierce said in his resignation letter.

To fill the board seat vacated by Guerrero, the board moved to invite businessman Bob Hudkins to become board member of the Chamber, Parke said.

Parke said Hudkins, who owns Hertz Rent-A-Car and other businesses in the CNMI, garnered the highest votes next to the three winning board members in the Chamber’s Nov. 3 elections.

Elected board members during the elections were Century Insurance president and MVA chair David Sablan, KCNM/KZMI general manager Harry Blalock, and Jim Arenovski of Delta Management Corp.

Parke indicated that Guerrero and Hudkins would be an asset to the Chamber, citing their achievements in business, politics and public service, and community service. Guerrero is former congressman, senator and Chamber president and is currently active with the American Red Cross’ CNMI chapter.

Hudkins, meanwhile, spent 12 years with the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Guam and operated his own security consultant business there, mainly providing services to the major airlines, before relocating to Saipan in 1991.

The Saipan Chamber of Commerce’s board of directors installed its former president, Juan T.
