{"id":86431,"date":"2004-12-15T01:27:00","date_gmt":"2004-12-15T01:27:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a1adc561-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-12-15T01:27:00","modified_gmt":"2004-12-15T01:27:00","slug":"a1adc57a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a1adc57a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Police association draws support from off island"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The proposed association comprising former or retired personnel of the Department of Public Safety continues to get support, this time from a former law enforcement officer currently residing in the U.S. mainland. <\/p>\n<p>In a statement to the Saipan Tribune, retired chief parole officer Jess Bermudes extended his appreciation to retired Maj. Raymond Camacho for the creation of such an association. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIndeed, we do need all the assistance and support [for] our Department of Public Safety and the community we can provide,\u201d he said. \u201cI would like to take this opportunity to congratulate Mr. Ray Camacho for coming up with good and worthy idea of forming this type of association.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Bermudes said he is willing to volunteer and become a member of \u201cthis very worthy cause.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In his statement, Bermudes revealed that he was one of the founders of the first CNMI Parole, Probation, and Corrections Association and was president as well before retiring.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring this time, we managed to come up [with] and successfully complete an extensive law enforcement officers safety control tactics training with the assistance of DPS and [Office of Personnel Management],\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>In an earlier interview, Camacho said he is currently working with a legal counsel on drafting the association\u2019s by-laws.
