Public schools are back to regular schedule today following a one-day break brought on by Tropical Storm Noru.<\/p>\n
As of 1pm yesterday, the center of Noru was located about 50 miles northeast of Alamagan, 40 miles east of Pagan, and 60 miles south-southeast of Agrigan.<\/p>\n
Gov. Juan N. Babauta still maintained Tropical Storm Condition I for the mentioned islands as of 2:30pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cBecause Tropical Storm Noru is still considered a threat to the Northern Islands of Agrihan, Pagan, and Alamagan, [Babauta] is advising the residents\u2026to remain indoors as damaging winds approaches,\u201d EMO said.<\/p>\n
The storm is moving north at 14 miles per hour and is expected to continue doing so for the next 12 hours with further increasing forward speed, according to the Emergency Management Office. Maximum sustained winds are 65 miles per hour, with damaging winds up to 90 miles per hour. It will continue to intensify over the next 24 hours.<\/p>\n
Residents of Saipan, Tinian, and Rota are urged to refrain from coastal and beach areas due to high surf\u201410 to 13 feet\u2014which could build to a hazardous 13 to 16 feet. <\/p>\n
The tropical storm brought heavy rainfall, causing flash floods in various areas.
