Ada Gymnasium.

The Lost Boyz (5-0) took a little while to get started, but found their groove with a five-point run when Nick Castro got the call to serve. Castro fired an ace past the track and field stars before surrendering the ball, but the Ol’Aces (1-3) were unable to gain any momentum.

Nan Intharaluk and Freddy Pelisamen provided plenty of high-powered returns, as the Lost-duo scored a combined four kills in the first set, 25-15, victory.

After taking the first set convincingly, the Lost Boyz failed to close out the match in the second, as Dan Barcinas and his Aces edged them, 25-21. Eli Rangamar provided plenty of vocalized support to Barcinas and “Jumping” Jeremy Winkfield in the match, as the aerial Aces combined for four kills in the second.

All was for not in the third for the Aces, as the Lost Boyz eked out the 15-9 win with big plays from Paul Magcalas and Pelisamen. Their unmarred record will remain intact for a couple of weeks longer, as the Lost Boyz don’t return to the court until Tuesday, Jan. 11 when they face the Chuukanos (1-3) at 7:30pm. The Ol’Aces will be back in action after the holiday break to take on the Chuukanos as well, on Tuesday, Jan. 4, at 6:30pm.

The men’s action actually got started before the intensity of the Lost Boyz and Ol’Aces match-up, as the Monarchs (0-4) and the Floaters (1-4) pushed their game into the third set before the Floaters earned their first win of the season.

With the both teams grasping for consistency, the Monarchs received some relief when Alvin Sangmou picked up the ball and served five straight points to make the score 20-16. The teams had to work hard for every score, but the Monarchs were able to finish the first set up 1-0 with the 25-22 victory.

The second set featured more of the same play, but the Floaters got all of the breaks to tie the match at a set apiece. Kelvin Fitial took command of the court when he served the ball for the Floaters, and his efforts contributed to his team surviving with a 25-18 advantage.

The third set was as close as the first two, as the win-deprived teams battled until the Floaters emerged with their first tally in the left side of the win-loss column, 15-12. They’ll shoot for their second victory next week Thursday, Dec. 28 when they challenge the powerful No Fear (3-1) at 7:30pm. The Monarchs will continue their search for a crown on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when they throw down their gauntlet at the feet of Shag (3-1) at 7:30pm.

There was only one game scheduled on the women’s calendar, as T-8 (1-3) earned their first win of the season by eking out a win over Haz Been (1-4) in two sets, 25-20 and 27-25. After taking the first set, T-8 was determined not to let the opportunity to win slip through their collective hands, and brought the level of their game to new heights when they outlasted Haz Been in a grueling second and deciding set.

T-8 and Haz Been return to the courts on Wednesday, Dec. 29, when they take aim at each other in a 6:30pm post-Christmas rematch.

The undefeated Lost Boyz extended their streak of domination on Tuesday night as they downed the Ol’Aces in a closely contested match that went the distance in the continuation of the Island Wide Volleyball League at the Gilbert C.
