{"id":86766,"date":"2004-12-28T05:10:00","date_gmt":"2004-12-28T05:10:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a1d0ded2-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2004-12-28T05:10:00","modified_gmt":"2004-12-28T05:10:00","slug":"a1d0dee6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a1d0dee6-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Fund issues RFP for health insurance"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The NMI Retirement Fund\u2019s board of trustees has finally finished drafting its Request for Proposal for the privatization of its health insurance program, prompting it to open the solicitation process last week.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe issued it last week so interested health insurance providers can submit their proposals to us now,\u201d said Fund administrator Karl T. Reyes in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>He said the RFP would be closed by late January.<\/p>\n<p>By February, he said, the Fund aims to have made a list of winning bidders.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen everything is done, we\u2019ll go ahead immediately with the implementation of the program [privatization],\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said the privatization can hopefully take place upon the termination of the Fund\u2019s extended contract with its health insurance third party administrator, Hawaii Pacific Medical Referral.<\/p>\n<p>The Fund initially extended HPMR\u2019s contract up to December 2004. This was later moved to February 2005 and then to June 2005, admitting that the government is unprepared to implement the privatization by February.<\/p>\n<p>The Fund board had decided not to renew HPMR&#8217;s contract, which expired last July, in anticipation of the full privatization of GHLI this year.<\/p>\n<p>The Babauta administration favors the full privatization of the Fund\u2019s Group Health and Life Insurance Program.
