This is an old form of dance competition started by black tap dancers as early as 1828 but modified in the early \u201820s and \u201830s. Head cutting allows a tap dancer to do a step and the challenger would have to imitate the step until a winner emerges. The winner will have to \u201ccut the head\u201d of the losers by performing a step or steps that an opponent cannot duplicate. <\/p>\n<p>The Close Up Club and the seniors of Kagman High School will be sponsoring such a competition as the organizations\u2019 fundraising project for their off-island trips to Washington and Micronesia. Entitled \u201cHead Cutting \u2013 Bust a Move Saturday,\u201d this is a dance-off competition to determine the best teenage dancer on Saipan, complemented by in-house music from local DJs.<\/p>\n<p>Also, the school has lined up several other competitive activities such as \u201cRump Shaking,\u201d another dance contest; \u201cTrivia Night,\u201d a Q&#038;A competition about Micronesia; \u201cBattle of the Bands,\u201d a band competition; \u201cMystery Night,\u201d a masquerade party; and other activities.<\/p>\n<p>The dance will be from 7pm to 10pm and will also feature a live band called \u201cThe Tropic 3\u201d composed of students from Kagman High.<\/p>\n<p>The project intends \u201cto provide teens a means of entertainment on the weekend that will be healthy\u201d and to raise funds for the school\u2019s educational activities.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Head cutting is not what you think it is.
