In the absence of a new contract, Macaranas could not report for work.<\/p>\n<p>When asked, House leadership spokesman Charles Reyes said that as far he knows, Vice Speaker Tim Villagomez had signed the renewal paper of the director.<\/p>\n<p>The contract was then forwarded to the Senate for concurrence.<\/p>\n<p>Senate legal counsel Michael Ernest said he understands that Macaranas\u2019 contract is pending at the Senate President\u2019s office.<\/p>\n<p>Since the bureau is without a director\u2014with the death of deputy director Placido Tagabuel Wednesday\u2014Ernest said a temporary director would be appointed soon, probably today.<\/p>\n<p>He declined to name the temporary director, saying he has not seen the person\u2019s \u201cshort-term\u201d contract.<\/p>\n<p>When asked, Ernest denied knowledge that Tinian-based Kimberlyn King-Hinds, chair of the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents, would assume the directorship.<\/p>\n<p>Senate President Joaquin G.
