A new Legislative Bureau director is expected to assume office today, even as the employment renewal of director Walter Macaranas hangs in the balance.<\/p>\n
Macaranas\u2019 contract is said to have expired last December. In the absence of a new contract, Macaranas could not report for work.<\/p>\n
When asked, House leadership spokesman Charles Reyes said that as far he knows, Vice Speaker Tim Villagomez had signed the renewal paper of the director.<\/p>\n
The contract was then forwarded to the Senate for concurrence.<\/p>\n
Senate legal counsel Michael Ernest said he understands that Macaranas\u2019 contract is pending at the Senate President\u2019s office.<\/p>\n
Since the bureau is without a director\u2014with the death of deputy director Placido Tagabuel Wednesday\u2014Ernest said a temporary director would be appointed soon, probably today.<\/p>\n
He declined to name the temporary director, saying he has not seen the person\u2019s \u201cshort-term\u201d contract.<\/p>\n
When asked, Ernest denied knowledge that Tinian-based Kimberlyn King-Hinds, chair of the Northern Marianas College Board of Regents, would assume the directorship.<\/p>\n
Senate President Joaquin G. Adriano, who is from Tinian, was not available yesterday to confirm about the purported appointment of King-Hinds to the post.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
