The Northern Marianas Amateur Sports Association will hold a special board meeting on Thursday, Jan. 20, to elect the CNMI governing sports body\u2019s 2005 set of officers.<\/p>\n
In NMASA\u2019s monthly general membership meeting last Jan. 6, the current board was unanimously voted to serve another term.<\/p>\n
The current board of NMASA is made up of Michael White, Jeff Race, Jess Wabol, Edward Manibusan, Robert Guerrero, Russ Quinn, Tony Rogolifoi, Louie Wabol, and Margaret Palacios.<\/p>\n
The nine board members will choose among themselves who would become president, vice president, secretary, and treasurer of the new regime.<\/p>\n
Guerrero of softball made the motion to retain the current board, \u201cbecause they have already started preparations for the 2005 South Pacific Mini Games.\u201d<\/p>\n
In a related story, NMASA president White said the selection for Athlete of the Year and Coach of the Year awards will go on as scheduled during the sports body\u2019s next monthly general membership meeting on Feb. 3 at the conference room of the Gilbert C. Ada Gymnasium.<\/p>\n
The annual NMASA Athlete of the Year banquet will be held on Feb. 17 at the Dai-Ichi Hotel Saipan Beach. A total of 29 athletes from eight disciplines are nominated to the yearly awards presentation.<\/p>\n
The sports body would fete athletes in four main categories: Male Athlete of the Year, Female Athlete of the Year, Male Student Athlete of the Year, and Female Student Athlete of the Year. Two, meanwhile, have been nominated for the Coach of the Year plum.<\/p>\n
The Northern Mariana Islands Track and Field Federation and the Basketball Association of the Northern Mariana Islands sent the nominations.<\/p>\n
NMASA would also induct its 2004 Sports Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n
Nominees for the hall of fame are baseball\u2019s Francisco M. Palacios for administration, athletics\u2019 Kurt Barnes for coaching, tennis\u2019 Irene Alpet for female athlete (posthumous), and softball\u2019s Tony Satur for male athlete.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
