{"id":87246,"date":"2005-01-17T03:24:00","date_gmt":"2005-01-17T03:24:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a2078e09-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2005-01-17T03:24:00","modified_gmt":"2005-01-17T03:24:00","slug":"a2078e1a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a2078e1a-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Children\u2019s author sits down with Lab School kids"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Teri Sloat, an author and illustrator of more than a dozen children\u2019s books, recently visited the Northern Marianas College Laboratory School to talk with the school\u2019s students about her books and explain the process of transforming an idea into a book.<\/p>\n<p>Sloat, along with her husband Bob, visited the College Lab School on Jan. 17.<\/p>\n<p>She shared with students how an idea or an actual event can be developed into a story and then becomes a book. The couple also demonstrated some of the techniques they use when drawing illustrations for a book.<\/p>\n<p>On her website, Sloat says that visiting young people at schools and festivals \u201cis one of my favorite ways of staying in touch with the energy and creativity of young people and their teachers and librarians. I like to talk\u2014that&#8217;s why I write, so I will talk about myself and what I have learned from my own children.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sloats currently live in California but they have also spent a lot of time in Alaska.
