Juan N. Babauta will kick off activities for the month with a proclamation signing on Jan. 31, at 10:30am, at the Executive Conference Room at the Office of the Governor.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the committee will be featured in today\u2019s TV talk show \u201cJohn Gonzales\u201d at 7pm on KMCV7.<\/p>\n<p>Activities planned for the month include the Family Fun Day on Feb. 19 at the Garapan Fishing base, a conference for parents on the theme \u201cFamily Strengthening through Parent Leadership\u201d on Feb. 24-25 at Hyatt Regency Saipan, a school skit contest, church activities, and a publicity campaign.<\/p>\n<p>Parent Leadership Month was created to:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tEducate the public about this vital family strengthening and community building strategy;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tEncourage professional, policymakers and other community members to create opportunities to partner with parents to address issues that affect children and families;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tRaise public awareness about the important roles parents play in shaping the lives of children and families;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tExpand opportunities for parent leaders to participate in meaningful parent leadership activities;<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tRecognize individual parent leaders whose contributions have made a positive difference to their families and communities; and<\/p>\n<p>\u2022\tBuild successful partnership between Parent Leadership and professionals to strengthen and support families and communities.<\/p>\n<p>Parent leadership occurs when parents gain the knowledge and skills to function in meaningful leadership roles and represent a \u201cparent voice\u201d to help shape the lives of families and communities, as well as shape the direction of programs and policies that impact them.<\/p>\n<p>Parents, grandparents, kinship care providers, foster parents, and anyone in a parenting role who has personal experience in using resources and\/or services to strengthen their families have the potential to be become parent leaders.<\/p>\n<p>When parents are speaking and acting from the parent\u2019s perspective rather than as staff from an organization or institution, they are parent leaders.<\/p>\n<p>The DYS Parent Education Program and its partners join Parent Anonymous\u00ae Inc., the nation\u2019s oldest family strengthening and child abuse prevention organization, in honoring anyone in a parenting role who has taken steps to provide leadership in their home or community or at the state of national level.<\/p>\n<p>Member organizations of the Parent Leadership Month committee are DYS and DCCA, Diocese of Chalan Kanoa, Public School System, Ayuda Network, Saipan Chamber of Commerce, Saipan Rotary Club, Headstart Program, CNMI Youth Congress, Community Guidance Center, Marianas CableVision, Marriage Encounter, Women\u2019s Affairs Office, CNMI Youth Alliance, and Northern Marianas College.<\/p>\n<p>For more information, contact the DYS Parent Education Program at 670-664-2585 or parented@saipan.com.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Parents and their leadership roles in the community will take center stage in February when the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs\u2019 Division of Youth Services and its public and private partners celebrate Parent Leadership Month. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-87465","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87465","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=87465"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/87465\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=87465"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=87465"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=87465"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
