At the start of the game between the D9ers and the Islanders, Mel Sakisat of the D9ers was the leader in four out of the six batting categories.<\/p>\n
As the slugging shortstop laced up his cleats for his final game of the season, he led the league with 27 runs scored, 14 doubles, 10 homeruns, and 39 runs batted in.<\/p>\n
The only thing that the all-star softballer was missing was the lead in triples and batting average.<\/p>\n
Sakisat was just one three-bagger behind leader Jester Garcia, who finished the season with six. Sakisat\u2019s 34-for-56 season long performance at the plate netted an average of .607, which was also good enough for second behind the Islanders Jeff Cabrera (.641).<\/p>\n
While Sakisat had a chance at Garcia\u2019s mark every time he stepped to the plate, his mission to dethrone Cabrera was foiled as the batting average leader did not show up to the park on Tuesday night.<\/p>\n
The big shortstop didn\u2019t waste any time at the plate, as Sakisat tied Garcia\u2019s mark in his first at bat when he knocked a three-bagger off of Manny Tenorio for his lead tying sixth triple.<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t fare as well in his successive at bats, as he hit a long pop-out to center fielder Mel Tenorio on his second attempt, grounded out to second baseman Roland Sablan in his third up in the third inning, and was walked in his last at bat by Jess Manibusan in the top of the fifth to finish 1-for-3 on the night.<\/p>\n
Had the D-9ers not had such a big lead, he may have had another shot at the title, but Sakisat will have to settle for a tie with Garcia at six triples apiece.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
