Pete A. Tenorio has affirmed his intention to run again for the same post in this year\u2019s polls.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI humbly request our party\u2019s continued support and guidance as I wish to seek-reelection \u2026this November and do hereby declare myself candidate for that office,\u201d said Tenorio in a Jan. 25 letter to Republican Party chair Juan S. Reyes,<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio described the office \u201cas the most fulfilling and challenging office I have ever held.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While positive development has taken place in the CNMI\u2019s relationship with the federal government in the last three years, he said \u201cthere are many more issues that need to be pursued in order to provide permanent and institutionalized benefits for all of our people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He cited these include the approval of CNMI representation in U.S. Congress, more federal assistance to address water and other critical problems, and equity in many federal laws.<\/p>\n<p>In fact, he said, \u201cthere are many in Washington D.C. who are unaware of our Covenant.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt will be my continuing mission to ensure that the people of the CNMI have their rights protected under the Covenant and represented in the nation\u2019s legislative body,\u201d said Tenorio.<\/p>\n<p>Tenorio, who served twice as lieutenant governor during former Gov. Pedro P. Tenorio\u2019s first two terms in the \u201880s, made a comeback in politics when he ran and won the Washington Representative post in the 2001 elections.<\/p>\n<p>He was also one of the local leaders who negotiated the CNMI Covenant with United States.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Washington Rep.
