{"id":87656,"date":"2005-01-31T04:28:00","date_gmt":"2005-01-31T04:28:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a22e10c9-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2005-01-31T04:28:00","modified_gmt":"2005-01-31T04:28:00","slug":"a22e10dd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a22e10dd-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"CUC seeks expanded role in CNMI Water Task Force"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Commonwealth Utilities Corp. is looking to take on more responsibilities in relation to the work of the CNMI Water Task Force, which aims to bring 24-hour water supply to all Saipan residents.<\/p>\n<p>Currently awaiting the approval of the CUC board of directors is an addendum to CUC\u2019s memorandum of agreement with the Water Task Force that would allow CUC to perform work assignments at WTF\u2019s expense.<\/p>\n<p>These work activities, according to the MOA addendum, will include well drilling, well construction, well water tests for commissioning new water wells, deep well reconstruction, water meter installation for large commercial and industrial areas, repair of major water leaks, and construction and reconstruction of power lines serving well fields.<\/p>\n<p>\u201c[The] parties have determined that CUC should be given an expanded role in the work of the WTF,\u201d read a portion of the addendum. \u201cThe WTF needs the expertise and resources of CUC to carry out its objectives.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the draft agreement, WTF will reimburse CUC for its services, provided that the output meets industry and environmental standards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCUC shall endeavor to perform all construction, reconstruction, installation, and repair work in accordance with standards established by WTF, [Division of Environmental Quality, [U.S. Environmental Protection Agency], and other government agencies, laws, and regulations\u2026.
