{"id":89626,"date":"2005-04-14T06:05:00","date_gmt":"2005-04-14T06:05:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a32ebf27-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2005-04-14T06:05:00","modified_gmt":"2005-04-14T06:05:00","slug":"a32ebf37-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a32ebf37-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"CNMI honors the military"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In recognition of the service of active-duty and military veterans in the CNMI, the government has declared May as Military Service Appreciation Month.<\/p>\n<p>In signing the proclamation yesterday at the Multi-Purpose Hall Center, Gov. Juan N. Babauta said that the freedom and security that U.S. citizens enjoy today are a direct result of the sacrifices and continued vigilance of the U.S. Armed Forces throughout history.<\/p>\n<p>These sacrifices, he said, cannot be repaid and represent the highest example of \u201cservice above self.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The governor called on the community to thank veterans and honor the families of active duty personnel for their honorable service.<\/p>\n<p>Right now, he said, there are 500 CNMI residents serving on active duty, many of them in combat zones.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe owe them our full support and admiration; and we owe it to their families to let them know that we will give them our help in whatever ways we can,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>During the month of May, he urged citizens \u201cto thank a vet for their service, and to recognize the sacrifices of brave men and women and their families as they face the latest threat to America\u2019s freedom: international terrorism.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Meantime, Governor\u2019s assistant for military affairs Ed Camacho said yesterday that more young people are getting interested in joining the military.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe number is climbing. I\u2019ve got no exact number but the number is climbing.
