Bermudes has stepped down, prompting the Legislature to appoint Senate legislative assistant George N. Camacho to the post in an acting capacity.<\/p>\n<p>Senate President Joaquin G. Adriano and Vice Speaker Timothy Villagomez jointly made the appointment of Camacho in a May 17 memorandum.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe is empowered to conduct all Legislative Bureau business in his acting capacity. He will serve in this acting capacity until a permanent director is appointed by the legislative leadership,\u201d said the two officials.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview, Villagomez said that Bermudes, who is the House\u2019 chief legal counsel, has volunteered to step down to concentrate on his legal work.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe wanted to go back to his original post. He did a great job at LB.  He feels that he needs more time as legal counsel now,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The LB director position has been vacant since the termination of employment contract of its former chief, Walter Macaranas, and the death of its deputy director, Placido Tagabuel, last January.<\/p>\n<p>The Senate earlier said that a vacancy announcement was issued resulting in five individuals submitting their applications. They are Patrick E. Seman, Francine G. Sablan, Janice Marie A. Tenorio, Chong Won, and Glenna S.
