{"id":91787,"date":"2005-07-02T04:00:00","date_gmt":"2005-07-02T04:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a3e85ed4-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2005-07-02T04:00:00","modified_gmt":"2005-07-02T04:00:00","slug":"a3e85ee8-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a3e85ee8-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Little Leaguers play big on Rota"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Saipan Little League All-Stars booked a ticket to this month\u2019s Asia-Pacific Regional Tournament in Fukuoka, Japan after completing a sweep of the CNMI District Tournament held on Rota over the weekend.<\/p>\n<p>The local hardballers went 4-0 in elimination play on Friday and Saturday before capping its domination of neighboring islands Tinian and Rota with a 21-2 win over the latter on Sunday to bag the championship.<\/p>\n<p>In other sports news for the week just passed, the Northern Yankees bagged the pennant championship of the 2005 Saipan Major League, Strawberry-Melon took home the gold in the 2005 Powerade Team Tennis Tournament, Century Insurance ruled the 17th season of the PBA-CBC Thursday Night League, and Jess Wabol carded the score to beat in the Championship Flight of last weekend\u2019s 3rd Annual Family Fun Day Golf Tournament.<\/p>\n<p>Northern Yankees probably are feeling mighty proud of themselves following their 5-3 shellacking of rival Miller Lite Brewers in the pennant tiebreaker held last Wednesday at the Francisco M. Palacios Baseball Field.<\/p>\n<p>The same could be said of Richard Asuncion\u2019s Strawberry-Melon, which took care of business by defeating Jagged Ice in the finals, 4-2, to hoist the Powerade title last June 23.<\/p>\n<p>Century Insurance players, meanwhile, accepted their seventh Thursday Night League plum last June 28 at the Capitol Bowling Center.
