David M. Apatang wants to rename Beach Road, Saipan\u2019s major thoroughfare, to \u201cVeterans Drive\u201d in honor of the veterans of the U.S. Armed Forces.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to honor the veterans for their unselfish sacrifices, patriotism, love of country and service in preservation of peace and justice for the common good,\u201d said Apatang, a military retiree.<\/p>\n<p>His proposal is contained in House Local Bill 14-75.<\/p>\n<p>Under the bill, the long stretch of Beach Road\u2014from American Memorial Park to Chalan Tun Thomas P. Sablan\u2014would be called Veterans Drive.<\/p>\n<p>The bill requires the Saipan Mayor, in consultation with the Office of the Military Liaison and Veterans Affairs, to prepare a plan for the dedication of \u201cVeterans Drive,\u201d possibly on Nov. 11, 2005.<\/p>\n<p>The bill also asks the governor to host a reception on the date of the ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>In another news, Rep. Clyde K. Norita introduced House Bill 14-356 to require notaries public to administer an oath or affirmation that an individual who is executing a document written \u201cin a language he or she is not proficient with\u201d understands the contents of the document.<\/p>\n<p>The bill aims to amend 4 CMC section 3321 or Public Law 14-52.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe amendment would require under such circumstances that the appropriate translator was present, that the translator translated the document to the individual, and that the individual acknowledged the translation and understood the contents of the document,\u201d said Norita.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Rep.
