The 2004 Teacher of the World and 1999 Teacher of the Year Barbara Gilles is currently on the island for a six-day workshop on \u201cNurturing Civilization Builders\u201d at the Pedro P. Tenorio Multi-Purpose Center in Susupe.<\/p>\n
Gilles started her workshop Tuesday with the topic \u201cIncreasing our Intelligence Quotient, our Emotional Quotient, our Spiritual Quotient and WeQ that is called the Collective Quotient.\u201d<\/p>\n
On Wednesday, Gilles discussed \u201cWhat is a Civilization Builder and How Do We Become One?\u201d On Friday she would be resuming her workshop and would discuss how parents can teach and be role models to nurture others and become civilization builders.<\/p>\n
The workshop will continue next week from July 18 to 20, still at 10am at the same venue. On Monday she would be presenting video clips by Bruce Lipton on the topic \u201cThe New Biology.\u201d After the film showing, there would be a discussion and dialogue with Gilles.<\/p>\n
On July 19, a video entitled \u201cThe New Cosmology\u201d by Brianne Swimme will be shown and during the last day of the workshop, July 20, which would also include a dialogue and discussion regarding the video clip entitled \u201cThe New Civilization Builders with Dick Spady.\u201d<\/p>\n
Entrance for the workshop is $10 per session or $60 for the entire workshop, said Gilles.<\/p>\n
The World Network of Religious and Futurists named Gilles Teacher of the World last year, while in 1999 she was named Teacher of the Year and was personally presented the award by former President Bill Clinton. She said she was recognized due to her dedication and passion for advocating for the children of the world.<\/p>\n
She said the Civilization Builders is like the PeaceBuilders but unlike the latter; Civilization Builders is for everyone, not just schools. She said she believes that education is everyone\u2019s business.<\/p>\n
Gilles taught at Tanapag Elementary School from 1996 to 2000. She went back to Seattle, Washington where she now works as director of Educational Innovation for the Stuart C. Dodd Institute for Social Innovation.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
