Gov. Juan N. Babauta and Supreme Court Chief Justice Miguel Demapan led government officials and the judiciary in honoring the CNMI\u2019s probation and parole officers by proclaiming July 17-23 as \u201cProbation and Parole Officers Week.\u201d<\/p>\n
Babauta and Demapan jointly signed the proclamation in one of the courtrooms at the Guma Hustisia Friday. Dozens of government representatives, including probation and parole officers, witnessed the event.<\/p>\n
The proclamation recognized the importance of probation and parole officers, who are tasked to supervise adult and juvenile offenders, in the criminal justice system. It noted that those officers partner with community groups to promote advocacy and prevention of criminal offenses.<\/p>\n
\u201cProbation and parole officers have continued to supervise and monitor felonies, misdemeanors and traffic cases,\u201d it said. \u201c[They] have continued to uphold the laws with dignity while recognizing the rights of the public to be safeguarded from criminal activities.\u201d<\/p>\n
Babauta and Demapan urged members of the community to express their gratitude to probation and parole officers, whose services ensure that offenders are rehabilitated.<\/p>\n
\u201cOur judicial system relies heavily on these officers to keep our jails from overcrowding and to ensure that offenders\u2019 actions are tracked once they are released back into society. Their workload is heavy but their sense of duty is strong. They relieve the pressure from the Department of Public Safety while working closely with them to safeguard our community,\u201d the governor said.<\/p>\n
