{"id":93590,"date":"2005-09-08T05:03:00","date_gmt":"2005-09-08T05:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a4976f98-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2005-09-08T05:03:00","modified_gmt":"2005-09-08T05:03:00","slug":"a4976fa9-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a4976fa9-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"MHS tourism club cleans up beach"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Marianas High School\u2019s Marianas Youth Welcome All Visitors Enthusiastically  Club began the year by cleaning up the beach from Sugar Dock to the World Resort Hotel on Sept. 3, 2005.<\/p>\n<p>MHS MY WAVE president Na Lim Heo said the beach cleanup \u201cwas a great idea [because] by doing so, we will also be able to sustain our tourism [industry].\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Heo said each member was given a trash bag that was categorized into different types of trash\u2014plastic, paper, glass, and other miscellaneous.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe found diapers, party wastes, cans, etc. throughout the site,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The group also engaged in a tree-panting activity after picking up the trash for two hours.<\/p>\n<p>The group cited the help given by the Saipan Chamber of Commerce, Division of Agriculture, and the Saipan Mayor\u2019s Office of Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Heo said that, for this year, the MY WAVE Club members and advisers are planning to go to Bali to enhance their knowledge of tourism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe effort to maintain tourism is very crucial, especially nowadays with the decline in our tourism here in the CNMI. Since tourism is one of the main industries on the island, it has a direct effect on the CNMI\u2019s economy. By supporting and educating the younger generations, they will be able to carry on the industry into the future,\u201d Heo said.
