The pristine natural beauty of the Northern Islands is one of the few unique treasures that the CNMI possesses.

We already have one of our islands being periodically blown to bits by the military; we cannot barter off another of our natural wonders for a bit of cash. Yes, this could potentially line some people’s pockets and maybe give some people jobs but there is something about using a paradise as a dumpsite that rubs me the wrong way.

I have always dreamed of going to the Northern Islands. I have imagined them, listened eagerly to accounts of those who have been there, and studied photos and satellite images of them. They are perfect the way they are. I will not suffer a blemish of this nature scarring the serenity of Pagan, or any other northern island for that matter.

I thank our leaders for trying to find a way out of our economic woes but this particular solution is unacceptable. Find another way. Promote the Northern Islands for what they really are-treasures, not trash cans.

Edward W.S.
