Forty-eight runners of all ages ran down fairways on one of Saipan’s most beautiful stretches of land last Friday during the Club at the Hyatt Golf Classic’s 5-kilometer Fun Run at the Laolao Bay Golf Resort,<\/p>\n
Steven Pixley, Noriko Jim, and Crosby Schultz each took the tape for the men’s, women’s, and children’s races respectively, but Jim topped them all with a remarkable time of 16:44.<\/p>\n
According to race coordinator Faheem Ebrahim, Jim’s time was even more special due to the contours of the golf course.<\/p>\n
“It was a tough race. People don’t realize the ups and downs are that difficult on a run course,” said Ebrahim.<\/p>\n
Multisport enthusiast Mieko Motoyoshi was second in the women’s division with a respectable time of 18:40, while Belle Grandinetti finished third in 20:56.<\/p>\n
Pixley was only seconds behind Jim with a time of 16:55—good enough to take the men’s division, and he was tailed by Paul Jayman who finished in second place with a time of 17:13. Jayman had little room to falter as Richard Haugh was seven second behind in third (17:20).<\/p>\n
The kids had just as much fun under the sun as Schultz rocketed through the course in a stunningly swift 23:29 that edged sibling Kenyon Schultz, who finished in second place at 25:27, while Zoe Jewell bagged third in 27:08.<\/p>\n
The event was more than a jaunt through the links as Ebrahim said that local kids will benefit from people being fit.<\/p>\n
“We made $400 for the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and we definitely plan to do it again next year,” said Ebrahim.<\/p>\n
The organizers of the event wished to thank Mike Grandinetti of UMDA for the T-shirts, the folks at Laolao Bay for the use of the grounds, and the team of runners from Saipan Southern High School’s JROTC program who helped to make the inaugural event a success.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
