The area is currently zoned as village residential.

Felipe Atalig, father of Juan B. Atalig who owns the land where the proposed church will be operated, represented the applicant during Wednesday’s public hearing.

Acting Zoning administrator Therese T. Ogumoro recommended that the application be approved provided that the Mission Connection Ministry follows some conditions: The applicant is required to improve their proposed parking areas and revise the plan in such a way that it would allow for a walkway between the church and the parking area.

“The reason for the walkway is to allow safe movement of pedestrians from the church to the parking area and vice versa,” Ogumoro told Saipan Tribune.

Zoning initially rejected the proposal due to the lack of a walkway.

The Mission Connection Ministry is also required to demolish a small wall measuring about six feet wide that serves as a barrier dividing the church and the parking lot. Demolishing the wall would pave the way for the construction of the walkway.

Ogumoro also noted that the applicant should conform with the requirements of Section 1204 of the zoning law, which refers to the non-conforming structure use.

“If the applicant does not fulfill these conditions, no permit will be issued,” said Ogumoro.

All board members present at the public hearing unanimously approved the application.

By Clarissa David Reporter The Zoning Board approved Wednesday the conditional use application of a…

[4

post-948","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news
["GET
