Rota CFL Home Makeover winner Maria \u201cTita\u201d R. Manglona will be seeing a decrease in her utility bill once she replaces all her non-efficient bulbs to the energy savings bulbs.<\/p>\n
On Saturday, Oct. 22, the Energy Division, along with the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs and Residential Energy Assistance Challenge, were on Rota for the Energy Fair sponsored by DCCA\/REACh program.<\/p>\n
As part of the Energy Awareness Month and the Energy Star \u00ae Awareness Project (funded by U.S. Department of Energy, State Energy Program), the Energy Division extended the \u201cBOGO\u201d buy one, get one free CFL promotion to Rota in partnership with YCO True Value or Do-It-Best Hardware at the Rota Office of the Aging Center parking lot from 9am to noon. During that short period, over 100 Rota residents came to the fair.<\/p>\n
Manglona, together with her husband, Rota Mayor Benjamin Manglona, came to see the fair and, while there, she saw the difference in how the incandescent bulbs uses more energy rather the compact fluorescent light bulbs. She took advantage of the \u201cBOGO\u201d and purchased six CFLs.<\/p>\n
While everyone patiently waited for interval drawings for CFLs, shirts, umbrellas, and bags donated by both the Energy Office and DCCA\/REACH, right before closing of the fair, Energy director Thelma B. Inos gave Rota Mayor Manglona the honor to pull the lucky winner for CFL Home Makeover. Much to everyone\u2019s surprise, residents present witness that the mayor pulled his wife\u2019s name for the CFL Home Makeover. \u201cIt was funny,\u201d Inos said, \u201cas the mayor asked why I was smiling before I even announced the winner.\u201d<\/p>\n
Manglona is anxious to replace all her bulbs with the CFL and to start seeing some savings on her utility bill.<\/p>\n
The Energy Division also conducted the basic \u201cHow to Conserve Energy and Walk-Thru Energy Audit\u201d for government employee on Friday, Oct. 24, at the Office on Aging as part of the Governor\u2019s Initiative on Energy Conservation.<\/p>\n
In addition, they will be extending the workshop and the \u201cBOGO\u201d promotion to Tinian. The workshop will be on Nov. 9 and the Energy Fair on Saturday, Oct. 29.<\/p>\n
