Castro was honored Tuesday when the NMI Council for the Humanities awarded her the Lifetime Achievement in the Humanities Award.<\/p>\n<p>Sister Remedios was among seven other awardees honored during the 2005 Governor\u2019s Humanities Awards ceremony held at the Aqua Resort Club.<\/p>\n<p>NMI Council for the Humanities chair Herman T. Guerrero said the committee had chosen the nun for her dedication in teaching literacy to the CNMI community.<\/p>\n<p>Other awardees honored were Herbert Del Rosario, who received recognition for Research and Publication; Phillip Mendiola-Long, who received the award for preserving CNMI history; Dr. David Khorram of Marianas Eye Institute, who received the Outstanding Teacher Award; and Michael A. Fleming, who received the Preserving Traditional Cultural Practices Award. Cathy Anderson, Genevieve Cabrera, and Maya Kara also received awards for the Marianas Memorial Subcommittee.<\/p>\n<p>The council also awarded a plaque of appreciation to Gov. Juan N. Babauta for his support during his term to the council.<\/p>\n<p>The council also recognized and gave plaques of appreciation to the following: Mobil Oil of Micronesia, Summer Holiday Hotel, Winzler and Kelly Consulting Engineers, Dr. Anthony Bottone, Public School System, American Memorial Park, NMI Museum of History and Culture, Joeten-Kiyu Public Library, Northern Marianas College, Historic Preservation Office, and its former board members, the late Vicente T. Camacho, Paula Bermudes-Castro, and Fermin Meriang.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Sister Remedios P.
