Citing an \u201coverwhelming support\u201d from the voters, the ruling Republican Party predicted yesterday \u201ca landslide victory\u201d in tomorrow\u2019s general elections.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re way ahead of the others. There\u2019s no question about that,\u201d said GOP chair John S. Reyes yesterday.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s going to be another landslide. It\u2019s a landslide. We\u2019re very sure of it,\u201d said Community and Cultural Affairs Secretary and gubernatorial first-cousin Juan L. Babauta.<\/p>\n
Reyes declined to confirm about an \u201cin-house\u201d survey reportedly conducted by a group from the University of Guam, but GOP sources yesterday said that the result of the survey \u201cboosted our confidence about this election.\u201d<\/p>\n
\u201cThe result is it\u2019s Babauta-Benavente again for another four years,\u201d said a source.<\/p>\n
Another party insider said it was not released because it also contains crucial information about the opponents.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s meant for in-house use. The important thing there is it confirms the people\u2019s choice for BB,\u201d said the supporter.<\/p>\n
The GOP held its final hand waving and dinner gathering at the Garapan fishing base grounds across Kristo Rai church yesterday.<\/p>\n
Meantime, Reyes said that several respected members of the community have expressed support for the Babauta-Benavente ticket.<\/p>\n
\u201cPeople know that it\u2019s still the incumbent governor and lieutenant governor that can make a difference in people\u2019s lives in the Commonwealth for another four years. That\u2019s the real score,\u201d said Reyes.<\/p>\n
Reyes said that the Republican Party also has the support of various ethnic groups, including the Palauan community. He said the Palauan Association showed an overwhelming support during a meeting the past weekend.<\/p>\n
Former Covenant Party congresswoman Malua Peter attended yesterday\u2019s GOP political rally in Garapan. \u201cI\u2019m supporting GOP,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
