Ada Gymnasium.

Bacardi got off to a strong start as twin towers Tony Raho and Bruce Berline gave the Michelob offense a lot of trouble inside the paint. Berline also benefited from crafty passes from teammates and powered his way for 10 points as the Golden Oldies enjoyed a 13-point spread after the first 10 minutes of play, 23-10.

The Masters selection continued to hold favor and still held on to their double-digit lead after keeping up a decent charge. Michelob, however, managed to inch a little closer, cutting the deficit to 11 points and headed into the break down, 34-45.

Michelob quickly turned the tables as they held Bacardi scoreless for most parts of the third quarter. After having a shaky first half, scoring machine Dave Sablan erupted for 18 points, while veteran Ed Diaz pumped in nine points as the Torque-backed team limited Bacardi to just six points, while lighting the scoreboard for 33 points, which turned their deficit into a 16-point lead heading into the final period, 67-51.

Fortunately for Bacardi, their cold shooting didn’t carry over into the payoff period as they came storming back and rallied. Guard Joe Punzalan and Raho combined for 15 points, but their efforts came a little short as Michelob hit four triples and held on to the win.

Sablan led all scorers with 34 points, while Diaz and power forward Ned Norita contributed 20 and 17 points.

Punzalan and Berline had 23 and 20 points for Bacardi, while Raho supported them with 15 points.

Meanwhile, MARPAC-Nissan Titans got a free win via forfeit over Budweiser-Wells Fargo in the first game.

Michelob-Master Construction Torque 85 – Sablan 34, E.
