Then students in grades nine through 12 are offered the opportunity to vie for a $25,000 scholarship and a trip to Washington, D.C.<\/p>\n<p>In addition, at each of the first three levels of competition contestants can win an assortment of prizes.<\/p>\n<p>The Patriot\u2019s Pen, which is also sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars, is a written essay contest for students in grades six through eight. As with the VOD, the national VFW selects a patriotic theme each year for the competition. Students at this level compete for a ten thousand dollar scholarship.<\/p>\n<p>The Post 3457 VOD winners are the following: 1st place Ray Anthony Duenas of Saipan Southern High School; 2nd place Ferleen V. Esmundo of Saipan Southern High School; and 3rd place Mia Jones of Marianas High School.<\/p>\n<p>Patriot\u2019s Pen winners are: 1st place Jeremiah S. Perez of Calvary Christian Academy, 2nd place David K. Paek of Calvary Christian Academy, 3rd place Rosalyn M. Tudela of Calvary Christian Academy.<\/p>\n<p>In addition the Veterans of Foreign Wars Teacher Award was won by Jaime R. Vergara, a sixth grade teacher at San Vicente Elementary School and a Saipan Tribune columnist.<\/p>\n<p>The first place winners in each of the contests will move on to compete at the district (Guam and the CNMI) level competition.
