Northern Marianas College student Nicole Babauta recently made her home islands of the CNMI proud as she was chosen as one of the recipients of the 2005 Phi Theta Kappa National Dean\u2019s List scholarship.<\/p>\n
Babauta joined the ranks of 54 other college students from 50 states of the U.S. including the District of Columbia, Guam, American Samoa, and Northern Marianas.<\/p>\n
The NMC President\u2019s Office received a letter early this month from the Center for Excellence Mississippi Education and Research Center in Jackson, Mississippi. Executive director Rod A. Risley said the selection of Babauta is an outstanding honor that has placed her among a special group of 55 promising community college students.<\/p>\n
The National Dean\u2019s List is a prestigious compilation of honor students in two-year and four-year degree programs.<\/p>\n
\u201cBy virtue of membership in Phi Theta Kappa, all new inductees are automatically nominated for the National Dean\u2019s List,\u201d said Risley, adding that the scholarship only rewards students who have demonstrated academic excellence and a commitment to improving their communities.<\/p>\n
\u201cNicole exemplifies the outstanding students enrolled not only at the Northern Marianas College but at community colleges everywhere,\u201d said Risley.<\/p>\n
The 55 recipients of this year\u2019s prestigious recognition were chosen at a random search and they will each receive $250 in scholarship money. \u201cThrough this recognition we are affirming the value of a community college education and the impact it has and is having on millions of students,\u201d Risley added.<\/p>\n
The Phi Theta Kappa is the oldest, largest, and most prestigious honor society serving two-year and community colleges in all 50 states of the United States, Canada, Germany, and U.S. territorial possessions.
