A man who was charged for strangling his common-law-wife and breaking their things with a machete in their house, entered a guilty plea yesterday.<\/p>\n
Roman Lainos,34, pleaded guilty to assault and battery.<\/p>\n
Superior Court Associate Judge David A. Wiseman accepted Lainos\u2019 plea and sentenced him to one year in jail, all suspended except for 11 days.<\/p>\n
Following the plea agreement, Wiseman gave Lainos credit for the 11 days he had previously served in prison.<\/p>\n
The judge said the sentence shall be suspended for 11 months and 20 days and that Lainos will be placed on probation in that period.<\/p>\n
Lainos was ordered to pay $150 fine and $25 in court assessment fee. He was required to perform 20 hours of community work service.<\/p>\n
Wiseman directed the defendant to write a letter of apology to the victim and attend an anger and alcohol counseling at the Community Guidance Center.<\/p>\n
During the probationary period, Lainos is prohibited from consuming alcoholic beverages.<\/p>\n
The defendant was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon and assault and battery. He and counsel Assistant Public Defender Douglas Hartig signed a plea agreement with the government.<\/p>\n
Lainos pleaded guilty to assault and battery. The assault with a dangerous weapon charge was dismissed.<\/p>\n
The agreement stated that on July 10, 2005 on Saipan, the defendant \u201cdid bodily harm to [the victim] by choking her with his hand.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to court papers prepared by Police Detective Christopher Leon Guerrero, the victim was sleeping with their six- and 12-year-old sons when Lainos arrived very drunk at their house in Kagman III.<\/p>\n
Leon Guerrero said Lainos asked for the key of their pick-up truck, but the victim refused to give it.<\/p>\n
The defendant got mad and strangled the victim. Later, the defendant damaged their things in the kitchen using a machete. Their six-year-old son was awakened by the noise and witnessed the defendant\u2019s violent behavior, police said.<\/p>\n
The victim said Lainos turned violent whenever he gets drunk. She added she is tired of the defendant\u2019s violent behavior over the past 10 years.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
