Department of Public Safety Commissioner Santiago F. Tudela said his plan to promote 20 more police officers will not push through due to lack of funding.<\/p>\n
Tudela told the Saipan Tribune that he was working on the promotion of these police officers who have been in the department for over five years, but he felt sorry that it would not be possible because of funding shortage.<\/p>\n
But Tudela disclosed however that he has been working for these officers to be converted to civil service employees.<\/p>\n
Presently, about 17 police officers, with ranks of Police Officers 1, are on a yearly contract with the department.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo every year after year they have to renew their contract. But even if they I don\u2019t promote them, I\u2019m going to try to convert them to civil service so they don\u2019t have to worry about by the end of their contract,\u201d the commissioner said, adding that such will make them permanent employees.<\/p>\n
These officers are presently assigned with the patrol, motor carrier, and boating safety sections.<\/p>\n
Last Friday, Tudela promoted 51 police officers and firefighters with salaries corresponding to their ranks.<\/p>\n
Such massive promotion will cost the government to incur over $200,000 in salaries for these personnel, the commissioner said.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
