A group of investors headed by U.S. presidential appointee to the Asian American and Pacific Islander Advisory Commission Rudy Pamintuan is seeking a permit from the CNMI government to set up a new casino on Tinian.<\/p>\n
The Tinian Casino Gaming Control Commission confirmed yesterday that Pamintuan\u2019s team is applying for a casino license and is in fact holding a public presentation about the project on Monday at 5pm.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey will present their proposal on Monday. The public is invited to attend,\u201d said TCGCC executive director Esther Hofschneider-Barr in an interview yesterday.<\/p>\n
She said the public hearing will be held at Tinian Superior Court House.<\/p>\n
Aside from Pamintuan, who is the chairman of the presidential commission, the group of investors also include two other presidential appointees\u2014Akshay Desai and Kenneth Wong.<\/p>\n
Based on the biodata posted at http:\/\/www.aapi.gov\/advisory.htm, Pamintuan, of Chicago, Illinois, is president of Sherman Consulting, Inc, a media strategy and public policy consulting firm.<\/p>\n
Wong, of Holland, Pennsylvania, is the president of CIG Asia, Ltd, a national property and casualty brokerage firm in Philadelphia and vice president of Combined Insurance Group, while Dr. Akshay Desai is a leading private practice physician and founder of American Family and Geriatric Care in St. Petersburg Florida, as well as the CEO and president of Universal Health Care, a managed care organization. The president\u2019s advisory commission, which is tasked to advise the President, through the Secretary of Commerce is mandated to:<\/p>\n
* Develop, monitor, and coordinate federal efforts to improve Asian American and Pacific Islander participation in government programs;<\/p>\n
* Foster research and data collection for Asian American and Pacific Islander businesses and communities; and<\/p>\n
* Increase their level of participation in the national economy and their economic and community development.<\/p>\n
Meantime, TCGCC is mandated to grant license up to five casino operations on Tinian.
