While many of the island\u2019s underhanded artists are enjoying some time away from the diamonds during the holiday break, two teams worth of players from the Women\u2019s Island-Wide Slow-Pitch Softball League took advantage of the vacancy under the lights at Tan Ge Field on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
The Saipan Stevedore Rookies played a scrimmage game against a team comprised of the Mix-A-Lot and family members in an effort to work on a few of their shortcomings and to have a little fun.<\/p>\n
Manager and coach Mel Sakisat served as umpire and instructor as his ladies put forth a little extra effort between games in hope of earning their first win when the season resumes in a couple of weeks.<\/p>\n
The Rookies are currently in last place at 0-3, but their place in the standings certainly isn\u2019t due to a lack of effort. The girls were all smiles as they worked up a sweat against some of the Mix-A-Lot\u2019s best, and they are slowly learning the fundamentals of the game thanks to Sakisat and company.<\/p>\n
Mix-A-Lot is in second place at 3-1 and trails only the undefeated Bomsoro (4-0) in the race for first. The Hitters and Pacific Amigas are tied in third at 2-2 followed by It\u2019s Okay (2-3) and the Tanapag Lady-8ers.<\/p>\n
The action of the Island-Wide Softball League will return to the Oleai Sports Complex after the holiday season as the women\u2019s slow-pitch league reconvenes on Monday, Jan. 3. The first matches of the New Year get underway when It\u2019s Okay meets with the Pacific Amigas at 6:30pm, followed by the Hitters and the Lady-8ers at 7:30pm, and the Sai-Steve Rookies contest with Bomsoro at 8:30pm.<\/p>\n
The men\u2019s fast-pitch league takes the field the following night on Tuesday, Jan. 4, when the D-9ers challenge the Islanders at 6:30pm, and Seabees \u20184\u2019 takes on the Kagman Lancheros at 7:30pm.<\/p>\n
Palacios said that the season should be completed and the champion crowned before next March\u2014plenty of time for the CNMI All-Star team to be selected for the 2006 Micronesian Games.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
