Marianas Visitors Authority board chair David Sablan said yesterday that he would tender his courtesy resignation to the incoming administration of Gov.-elect Benigno Fitial on Jan. 10, a day following the scheduled inauguration of newly elected officials.<\/p>\n
Sablan, who has chaired the MVA since 1998 and has held that position several times for a total of about 20 years, said he would fully support the incoming administration\u2019s pick for his replacement.<\/p>\n
Sablan\u2019s involvement in the Northern Marianas\u2019 tourism industry began in the 1960s, when the islands were still part of the Trust Territory government.<\/p>\n
\u201cI feel that my contribution to the accomplishment of the tourism industry is the establishment of the Intercontinental Hotel in 1976,\u201d Sablan said.<\/p>\n
Back then, Sablan recalled that Garapan was not developed yet as Saipan\u2019s tourist district.<\/p>\n
Sablan considers the designation of Garapan as the island\u2019s tourist belt as one his major contributions to CNMI tourism.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
