Reyes said yesterday that Klaver informed the agency that she would not be able to work for the Fund because \u201cit\u2019s wrong timing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Klaver earlier submitted her application to work as legal counsel for the Fund. In a meeting before Christmas, the Fund board decided to hire her. <\/p>\n<p>Reyes earlier said that Klaver was one of three lawyers who responded to the Fund\u2019s job vacancy announcement. <\/p>\n<p>Shortly after the board\u2019s decision, Reyes said that Klaver informed them that she would not be able to leave PSS until about February 2006 due to pending cases.<\/p>\n<p>Yesterday, Reyes said the lawyer is declining to accept the Fund\u2019s job altogether. \u201cShe declined,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>He said it was a bit \u201cdisappointing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This came even as Fund officials continue to express their dislike against a law that exempts PSS from paying the increased contribution of 36.7 percent for five years.<\/p>\n<p>The Fund board said that the measure is \u201cunfair and discriminating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Fund offers a maximum of $65,000 annual salary for a legal counsel position.<\/p>\n<p>The Fund has been without an in-house attorney for two years now.<\/p>\n<p>The Fund board\u2019s decision to hire a lawyer came even as it plans to finally sue the government for delinquency in paying its employer\u2019s contribution.<\/p>\n<p>The central government has some $85 million in arrears. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public School System legal counsel Karen Klaver has reconsidered her employment at the NMI Retirement Fund.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[4],"tags":[],"class_list":["post-96873","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-local-news"],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/96873","targetHints":{"allow":["GET"]}}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/users\/1"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/comments?post=96873"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/posts\/96873\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/media?parent=96873"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/categories?post=96873"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/wp-json\/wp\/v2\/tags?post=96873"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
