{"id":96992,"date":"2006-01-08T02:09:00","date_gmt":"2006-01-08T02:09:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/a5e8d81d-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e"},"modified":"2006-01-08T02:09:00","modified_gmt":"2006-01-08T02:09:00","slug":"a5e8d82e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.saipantribune.com\/index.php\/a5e8d82e-1dfb-11e4-aedf-250bc8c9958e\/","title":{"rendered":"Chinese community center opens"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Chinese Association Center was officially opened Saturday afternoon with the ribbon cutting attended by prominent dignitaries not only from Saipan but also from Guam and China.<\/p>\n<p>Gov.-elect Benigno R. Fitial and Lt. Gov.-elect Tim Villagomez graced the event with the former congratulating the Chinese Association of Saipan for the opening of the center, which is located across the Aging Center and Gold&#8217;s Gym on Garapan.<\/p>\n<p>The building has been named after the association&#8217;s co-founder Tan Siu Lin, who also gave a brief speech congratulating the association and thanking guests during the event.<\/p>\n<p>Tan also expressed his gratitude to the association for naming the building after him. Since its establishment in 1987, Tan has donated more than $300,000 to the Chinese Association of Saipan.<\/p>\n<p>Tan ended his speech with hopes that the building will serve not only as a community center for overseas Chinese but the entire CNMI community as well. <\/p>\n<p>Other government and business officials also witnessed the ribbon cutting ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>The event also unveiled two signages naming the building after Tan as well as the  Chinese education center.
